Dear Loup City Families,
We want to share an important update with you that will impact the day-to-day experience for all students and staff at Loup City beginning this fall. Starting the ‘24-’25 school year LCPS will not allow the use of Personal Electronic Devices at school.
What will that mean?
From 8:10 a.m. - 3:38 p.m. all cell phones and personal electronic devices must be in student lockers or left in vehicles.
Accommodations will be made for students that require a personal electronic device for medical assistance.
If students are caught with a cell phone it will be taken to the office and returned to a parent or guardian from the time between 3:45 pm and 4:15 pm, for the first offense.
If there is a second offense, the cell phone will be brought to the office and there will be a mandatory parent meeting before the phone is returned, the student will be required to check it into the office upon arrival at school.
We have seen at Loup City Public Schools that cell phones, earbuds and other personal electronic devices do not serve a helpful academic purpose. We have a responsibility to respond to the growing issues of cyberbullying and fostering healthy hallways and classrooms, as well as redirecting our focus onto learning outcomes.
To better ensure the safety and emotional well-being of all students we have made the decision to be a “cell phone free” school starting with the ‘24-’25 school year.
We wanted to share this information with you as early as possible so that you may know the efforts we are taking to ensure all students have a safe and predictable learning environment.
We also invite you to join us in our efforts to minimize the use of Personal Electronic Devices by supporting our teachers and having conversations about this with your student at home.
Our top priority has always been providing impactful learning opportunities for our students. At Loup City, we believe part of that process includes a more consistent and strict monitoring of cell phone and mobile device use.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me either by email or by calling 308-745-0548.
Thank you for your support!
